
Employees at the Domtar Rothschild Mill combined their annual holiday traditions with a new focus on animal welfare during the 2025 holiday season, delivering a significant donation of supplies and funds to the Humane Society of Marathon County.
The effort, led by the plant’s community investment team, featured a dual-track holiday drive. As the mill continued its long-standing support for Toys for Tots, it also hosted a dedicated collection for the humane society to provide for local animals awaiting adoption.
Employees collected more than 30 essential items from the shelter’s wish list, which included dog and cat food, treats, kitty litter, cleaning supplies and paper towels. Notably, the team also donated Cougar® box covers — produced by the mill — to be used as disposable litter box liners.
“The idea for the animal-focused drive came from one of our employees, Mike Radtke,” said Becky Coushman, executive assistant at the Rothschild Mill. “This is our third year of doing this. We have always done Toys for Tots, and we wanted to do a gift for the animals.”
In addition to the physical goods, Domtar presented a $500 check to the animal shelter to support its ongoing operations.
“The humane society was very excited to receive our donations,” Coushman said. “They are always looking for items to support their mission and are always grateful for the support.”
The mill’s community investment team regularly manages monetary donations for local nonprofits, but Coushman noted this particular drive held a personal connection for many Rothschild employees.
