Members of the Nekoosa City Council joined Nekoosa Mill leadership on Tuesday, March 31, for a facility tour and meet-and-greet aimed at strengthening ties between the city’s largest industrial employer and local government.

The visit provided city officials with an update on the mill’s operations, product lines and ongoing community outreach projects. Following a guided tour of the production floor, representatives from both sides discussed local developments and explored ways to foster mutually beneficial partnerships.

The delegation of city officials included Mayor Dan Carlson and Aldermen Adam Buehring, Anthony Carlson, Daniel Downing, Brad Hamilton, Larry Krubsack and Garett Kuhn. They were joined by Police Chief Shawn Woods, Public Works Director Rick Schmidt and City Clerk Kallee Ferk.

The Nekoosa Mill, a landmark of the central Wisconsin industrial landscape, has been in operation for more than 140 years. The facility specializes in the production of technical and specialty papers, including carbonless paper and various printing grades. As a primary economic driver for the region, the mill provides hundreds of local jobs and remains a cornerstone of the city’s tax base.

In recent years, the mill has focused on sustainability initiatives and equipment upgrades to maintain its competitiveness in the global paper market. This meeting signaled a continued effort by mill management to remain transparent and engaged with the residents of Nekoosa through their elected representatives. The group plans to continue meeting periodically throughout the year.
