Employees at Domtar’s Rothschild Mill came together to provide a community fundraiser to help support the nearby town of Ringle in Marathon County following the EF3 tornado that devastated the community on April 17. The company also donated an additional $5,000 to support the relief efforts.
The tornado was part of a major two-day outbreak that produced 86 confirmed tornadoes across the Midwest and Southern Plains.
The Marathon County tornado was one of the most damaging events of the storm system. Winds of 145 mph tore through the county as the tornado demolished or significantly damaged 75 homes and tore down hundreds of trees in Ringle, causing power outages. Thankfully, there were no deaths or injuries.
On May 19, Domtar’s Ringle Tornado Relief Walking Taco Fundraiser provided a buffet lunch and raffle tickets for employees who wished to contribute to residents’ cleanup and rebuilding efforts. A total of $1,780 was raised to help those impacted by the tornado. The money was deposited into the Town of Ringle’s tornado relief account.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone who purchased a meal, bought raffle tickets and volunteered to help with the fundraiser,” said Dave Faucett, general manager of the Rothschild Mill. “The tornado caused widespread destruction in Ringle, and we want to help the town’s residents with their recovery needs.”
