Domtar’s Rothschild Mill welcomed 30 members of the Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association on Sept. 17 for a tour focused on sustainable forestry practices in the papermaking industry.
The tour opened the association’s four-day workshop in Rothschild and gave members a behind-the-scenes look at Domtar’s papermaking process.
Fiber Procurement Manager Don Nelson began the day with a presentation about Domtar’s vision, mission and values. He also explained the manufacturing process behind Domtar’s paper products.
The group explored the mill’s paper and converting areas, where members saw the connection between sustainable forest management and the products made from renewable wood fiber.
In addition to Nelson, the following Domtar employees shared their expertise with their guests:
- Mike Timmer — Paper and Converting Operations Manager
- Tristan Hauser — Process Engineer
- Shawn Walkush — Production Coordinator
- Charlie Dehnel — Engineering and Maintenance Manager
The Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association is a statewide nonprofit educational organization serving private woodland owners and those interested in sustainable forestry statewide. Since 1979, the association has helped landowners manage their forests while promoting the long-term health of Wisconsin’s woodlands.
Responsible sourcing and sustainable forest management are central to Domtar’s manufacturing approach. By inviting these woodland owners, Rothschild Mill workers demonstrated how careful forest stewardship supports healthy woodlands and the Wisconsin paper industry.
