Several employees from Domtar’s Rothschild and Nekoosa mills attended the Wisconsin Paper Council’s Annual Meeting on June 16 at the iconic Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Paper Council (WPC) is a member-driven, statewide trade association representing Wisconsin’s paper, pulp, packaging and forestry industries. The organization strategically advocates for these industries before state and federal policymakers, working to achieve positive policy outcomes.
In addition, the council provides its members with world-class educational forums and networking opportunities while promoting the positive economic, environmental and social contributions of these industries throughout Wisconsin and across the U.S.
“WPC’s annual meeting brings together industry leaders and stakeholders to discuss the latest developments and future directions in Wisconsin’s paper, pulp and forestry sectors, along with presentations and networking opportunities with fellow industry peers,” said Dan Persica, senior manager, U.S. public affairs and special projects for Domtar.
In addition to a WPC Board of Directors meeting followed by opening remarks and a State of the Industry presentation from WPC President Scott Suder, the annual meeting included a keynote presentation on “The Intersection of Safety and Culture: Building and Sustaining a World-Class Safety Program” by Brian Fielcow, senior executive, author and culture expert.
During the lunch break, Rebecca Higgins, PFAs and emerging contaminants remediation growth leader/regulatory advisor for AECOM, provided an in-depth presentation on “PFAs Regulatory Strategic Planning and Solutions: Overview and Case Study.”
The afternoon agenda included a WPC Safety Subcommittee Update presented by Mike Warren, general manager of safety for CR Meyer and chair of the WPC Safety Subcommittee, followed by the Women in Forest Products Scholarship Awards and PFAs Enforcement Legislation Coalition Discussion.
The Women in Forest Products Scholarship Fund provides financial support to women in Wisconsin who are pursuing careers in the forest products industry or related fields, while also encouraging leadership development within the existing workforce.
The PFAs Enforcement Legislation Coalition discussion focused on WPC’s industry coalition efforts to reform the previous session’s PFAs enforcement legislation and provide insights into what lies ahead for industries. The discussion provided expert advice from industry leaders on how best to navigate the current guidance, along with the strategies companies may want to employ to prepare for future PFAs regulatory enforcement.
The event concluded with a highly popular tour of Lambeau Field.
