Twenty employees from Domtar’s Nekoosa Mill and their guests took to the trails at Lake Pacawa on May 16 to support local veterans during the fifth annual O’so Guardian 5K Run/Walk.
Participation was made possible through a joint sponsorship by Domtar and the United Steelworkers (USW) Veterans of Steel.
Proceeds from the 5K benefit several nonprofit groups dedicated to assisting former service members, including Patriot K9s of Wisconsin, an organization that pairs veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with trained service dogs.
The event also supports a local outdoor excursions program designed to help veterans reconnect with nature and build community. Organizers noted that funds raised help veterans find renewed purpose through physical activity and peer support.
For the Nekoosa team members, the race provided an opportunity to represent their workplace while contributing to a cause that impacts the local veteran community.
